Groomed skate lane from just before landslide hump and it is quite nice skating thereafter. A bit soft and buttery.
Skate track groomed on the upper 1.5K. Walk down from the gate and in, over the bridge and then up the road until the snow thickens just below the main washout, slide area. Bare asphalt in places make the walking good in ski boots. Also a decent classic track along with the skate lane so you can get a decent workout staying on the back end of the trail.
You wouldn’t know it when you pull up to the parking lot, but with a thin strip of snow piled in the middle starting at the bottom of the first hill, I could ski down all the way to just past 1k where the skate skiing just got better and better the farther up I went…. kudos to the groomers!
Decent classic and skate considering the low snow cover. A couple spots are very low coverage but the snow is pretty fast today and hike up and down is pretty sweet. Nice to have some terrain. Get it while you can! (hint: Snow was notably harder in morning than early afternoon).
The Eaglecrest groomers were able to groom the hill behind the Black Bear chair last night which added about a km to the overall groomed trails on the upper loop. Conditions were firm and fast this morning with an excellent classic track the entire way. Rough measure of the groomed trails is 4 km with plenty of hills to challenge you! Very fun skiing down into the Troy loop. Use Trickster to hike or ski up.
Still skiing on the upper 2 kilometer.
Watch for updated report later this Morning.
The upper loop was excellent this morning for skate skiing. Unfortunately the classic track was not set (equipment problems) but you could still classic ski on the groomed skate track, no problem. I measured a little over 3 km of groomed trail, not including the 1 km climb up (and exciting ski down!) The lower loop is looking sad – we need colder temps and more snow.
