The lower loop is in rough shape after the last thaw-freeze cycle. The classic track is skiable, hard and fast. The snow on either side of it is rough frozen cat tracks where they tried to pack it, so there is little room to maneuver outside of the classic track and the skate skiing lane looks simply awful. Good classic skiers can get a 4.9 km loop in on the trail that has been track set. Skate skiers should look elsewhere for now.
Montana Creek is outstanding for skate and classic today! Thank you groomers! I skated, but the classic tracks are in perfect shape. The temp is around freezing and warming, so not sure of the kick wax – maybe VR55 (?). No-wax skis may be a good choice today.
Cleaned up the skate track and classic was in great shape. Temps in high 20’s. Could not reset the new trail as lock was frozen.
This is a belated thank you to Dave for his care of Montana creek yesterday… the skating was smooth, well, MINT!. Classic was set and firm but will soften with this precip. Thanks to all the groomers for your work on these trails.
A heads up the Nordic Ski Team will have practice on Montana from 10-12 today. Thanks!
No one listed as grooming this morning at Montana so I am headed over there to get it before 10.
Shoveling took care of former holes
A courtesy FYI to plan accordingly: the Juneau Nordic Ski Team (JNST) practice will occur from 10-12 Saturday morning. Probably 20+ skiers and Coaches skiing fun!
