Lower loop is better than yesterday but still rough for skating. Only 1/2 skate lane that collapses on one side. Skiable for advanced skiers. Classic is better, softer snow on sides. Use caution
Eagle Beach was groomed early Sunday for skate and classic. The track groomed up nicely. Expect soft, somewhat wet snow.
With the thawing conditions, some tree debris is beginning to appear on sections of the trails. Classic skiers are advised to avoid klister.
Grooming completed at 0830. Froze overnight with 3/4″ of new snow (glue) on top. Was difficult to cut a classic track with good depth with a single pass. Didn’t have time to do more passes to increase depth of classic…..skating conditions are fast, conditions otherwise excellent.
Eaglecrest groomed the lower loop for skate and classic! Still early season conditions but a complete turnaround from yesterday.
Will be grooming Montana Creek from 0730-0900 today.
The lower loop is in rough shape after the last thaw-freeze cycle. The classic track is skiable, hard and fast. The snow on either side of it is rough frozen cat tracks where they tried to pack it, so there is little room to maneuver outside of the classic track and the skate skiing lane looks simply awful. Good classic skiers can get a 4.9 km loop in on the trail that has been track set. Skate skiers should look elsewhere for now.
Montana Creek is outstanding for skate and classic today! Thank you groomers! I skated, but the classic tracks are in perfect shape. The temp is around freezing and warming, so not sure of the kick wax – maybe VR55 (?). No-wax skis may be a good choice today.
