Montana Creek will be groomed Saturday morning.
The Camp Ground will not be groomed Saturday. There is 1/2 inch or less snow on the ice and it is not bonded to the ice. More snow is needed.
1 ” of new snow together with Doug’s grooming helped improve the trail for skate skiing Friday morning. There’s still a few icy spots and rocks looming just below the surface but by in large very good skiing all things considered.
When Scott found that he couldn’t groom the campground yesterday (Wednesday), he went to Montana Creek and started grooming there. He and Don Thomas were able to get the machine across the bridge despite the low snow cover and groomed the road so that skate skiing is now pretty good. Classic skiing also possible, but the classic track is not very well set (need more snow). It’s still icy at the gate and the very first hill, so he recommends using ice grippers to walk down the first hill a short distance until you can see the groomed section.
Scott just called in from Mendenhall Campground. He was going to try to groom today, but reports that the entire loop is an ice rink. No skiing at the campground until we get more snow.
Montana creek holding on. JM recommends bare feet for the first hundred yards for the full experience. It is alternatingly, thin, soft, wet but still skiable and all fun. Well ,Like McClane says, “It doesn’t have to be fun to be fun.”
Thanks for grinding the ice, even Monday morning! — made skiing possible!
