Scott just called in from Montana Creek. He reports the trail is beautifully set up for skate skiing and that he is about to set a good classic track. Good coverage all along the trail.
Sorry, a schedule conflict came up, so won’t be able to set a classic track today. Hopefully tomorrow. Should be excellent skiing at the campground and Montana Creek today.
I will try to get a classic track set on the Lower Loop by 11 AM Thursday, might be 11:30 by the time I’m done. No skate grooming for now.
Plenty of snow, finished grooming with the roller and comb for skate skiing. Still snowing when I left, made several passes packing down the fresh snow. Did not get a classic track set
Fifteen inches of fresh dry snow at Eagle Beach this morning and it’s still snowing.
The road and parking lot have been plowed. The campground road and ski trails have all been rolled to establish is nice base. We’ll set a classic track tomorrow morning.
Its a winter wonderland out there now.
Scott groomed the campground for skate skiing and people are already skating on it as of 9:50 a.m. He will set a classic track soon. The snow is SOFT, so please stay to the side if you are walking. This snowfall is a huge gift and it would be nice to keep the groomed tracks in good shape in any way that we can. Enjoy!
The walkers have pretty well torn up the grooming that’s been done at the campground. I took a fall when I hit a patch of ice unearthed by walkers this morning. Has it ever been discussed to separate a walking path (for humans and dogs) from a skiing lane? Would the USFS consider this? Seems like there is enough room for everyone. I’m increasingly annoyed by bootracks in the carefully groomed trail (as well as dogs off leash).
