Cut and combed the skating track with Ginzu several times between 3-5 pm. I left the classic lanes alone as they are quite icy. The skating conditions are hard and fast.
Very good skiing considering Saturday’s ex once past the icy hard pack at the beginning. Freshly groomed for skate and Nordic at 2:30 – thank you. Super fast downhill 🙂
Eagle Beach is groomed for skate and classic. Much of the track groomed up quite good, with “spring like” snow. Other portions back in the trees are mediocre, with tree debris and thin snow in places.
Don’t expect World Cup conditions, but the track is still quite skiable and even enjoyable. For classic skiing, waxless skis would be best.
The upper loop received a healthy amount of new snow last night and today, and Eaglecrest has started to add and extend the trail. It was buried today under all the fresh snow (note – the alpine skiing is excellent right now!), but as soon as it lets up a bit and they are able to groom again it should be very nice. Hats off to the Juneau Nordic Ski Team racers who raced the upper loop in a whiteout blizzard this morning! They are tough athletes.
If the track freezes tonight it may improve. I smoothed out the skating lane and reset the diagonals at 4pm.
Skate & classic set 10:00am
