CONDITIONS GOOD STI’LL WINTER.
Just wanted to give you a heads up we will be having an Arctic Winter Games snowshoe trial from 10:30-noon at the Campground Tuesday (tomorrow). Thanks for your patience and flexibility and cheers as these young Juneau athletes take their shot at making the Alaska Arctic winter Games snowshoe team, and thanks to the groomers for the packing!
Sunday night the classic track was a bit skied out, and skate was very good from bottom to top, firm and smooth.
The Eaglecrest lower loop has enough snow on it to make for a very enjoyable ski tour. It is not groomed, and there are a couple of places where you need to watch for open water, but otherwise the snow is soft and easy to ski. The upper loop is still groomed for skate and classic and is in fantastic condition. New access to upper loop – hike up Sneaky, stay to your left as you go up. No uphill skiin.
Two of us spent hours first rolling and then fine tuning, compacting the surface. Both skate and classic tracks done. Entire track now open and useable. One more snow and we’ll fine tune all of it with the Ginzu.
Steve Wolf that is, groomed the CG this morning.
Set classic and skate lanes this am.
