Snow at last!!! Scott Fischer is grooming the campground now. Not sure if there is enough snow for Scott to set a classic track or just skate. Betsy reports that the fresh snow is very soft. Best to keep your dogs at home today or take them out on the lake (ungroomed, but has a foot of ice, although the usual safety cautions apply).
Montana Creek Ginzu groomed and is ****
fast and smooth for skate skiing. No classic
track yet. Beautiful Ice formations in Creek.
16 f at 1200 noon.
Montana Creek **** from Snowmachine grooming equipment area to
end of trail. Grooming should start by 9:00 am tommore.
Cold, clear and decent skating. The upper loop is in. A new whoop de do on the other side of the creek. Thanks Nate! No crowds today. For adventure nordic skate try Cropley Lake.
There is good skiing up Montana Creek. 1/2 to3/4 inch on fine snow and frost on the trail. Groomed early this morning with two passes over the trail. Try night skiing with head lamp. It was very pretty with the head light on the groomer. There were Northern Lights also. Remember your Classic skis do not have to be in a track!
Montana Creek will be groomed early morning on Sunday the 4th. The more we groom it the more fines we make. Should be completed by 9am.
Hike up from lodge to bottom of Sneaky using ice cleats (very icy). Then hike up Sneaky on groomed man-made snow. At top of Sneaky it is possible to skate ski on groomed snow to Black Bear chair. Eaglecrest has groomed about 2 km of nordic trails. Snow has been tilled and groomed and is in beautiful condition for skate skiing. No classic track. Very little wind today and there is sun on the upper loop in the morning hours. Sunday should be excellent – get up there early for best light. Thanks to Ken Leghorn for this report.=, and thanks to Eaglecrest for the grooming!
