12/6/19 Fri Nite 32-36 degrees. Hardened corn snow starts at trail head. All trail peppered with dog and walker tracks. Bike ruts start at top and stop at 2nd Archery bridge. Classic tracks icy. Skate tracks rough and hardened. Half moon out some.
Thanks to a small group effort and especially Peter Ord, one of the most experienced JNSC groomers, the first rolling of the season has been accomplished. Some wet spots, high humidity snow (sticky on fish scales), purple wax? probably. Snowing when I left. Stay to right when heading out to field from new A frame building.
The lake creek access is a bit muddy but the skiing is awesome with about 10 inches of powdery snow up high.
If you could please start grooming soon.
It’s a taxing day but there’s luv too. Last day of grooming TODAY. Alas it’s getting difficult for the grooming equipment–spring is here as is gravel and ice. There’s still decent skate skiing but you should hoof it up past the first curve beyond the bridge to avoid the main bare area–I’d still recommend using your rock skis today. Once you’ve navigated a little ice (I’ll do my best to score the surface) on the lower trail, it gets fairly good with decent snow coverage for the upper 1 12 km. Have a luvly last day of groomed trail skiing at Montana Creek!
I’ll groom starting about 8:00 and should be ready to ski about 8:30-9:00.
