Classic Xcd Upper Loop Saturday afternoon. Apparently had not been groomed since the 21st (?). Several “water hazards” to navigate and many pole plants went straight through the weak, soft snowpack with no bottom. And, large portions of classic track were either missing or shallow from melt. Was stopped from skiing down the backside track by a previously flooded area covered with dirt. Still, had several lengthy passages with decent snow and overall a gratifying afternoon.
It’s worth the hike up. Coverage is great. The groomers fixed a couple creek crossings that overflowed. The cat left a few chunky spots but very skiable. 54F Tuesday afternoon and HOT.
Dave said that due to flooding issues on the mountain they didn’t have time to get over to groom the upper loop. But they should have it groomed on Tuesday.
It was snowing Th on both loops. The Upper Loop is faster than the Lower Loop as it’s just that much colder. Try both just because you can.
Finished two trips around the tracks at 930 and no others on the trail. Snow is about as good as it gets. Violet wax was perfect for track conditions. Lower lot is now cleared and shute to the main trail from the lower lot is groomed.
Eaglecrest is on it! They are grooming the upper and lower loops daily for skate and classic with the big machines. Wide smooth corduroy skate lane, nicely set classic track. Every inch of the lower loop is groomed, including some sections that have not been set for several years. Treat yourself to true nordic skiing with hills, loops, roundabouts, forest trails and open meadows. Don’t forget to buy a day ticket at the lodge, unless you already have a season pass or alpine pass add-on.
Skied the upper and lower loops – sunny, no wind, fresh corduroy, bring sunscreen.
Great skiing – thanks for getting it all groomed!
