No fresh grooming – thin snow cover

The lower loop snow cover is very thin and Eaglecrest made the wise decision to not take the snowcat out on the trail yesterday so as not to expose more rocks. The track is still set for skate and classic but it is rough and conditions are fast. Watch for hazards. The...

Eaglecrest upper loop access

Trickster is not groomed but you can herringbone up on the ungroomed snow, no problem. The more skiers who go up there the better the path will be. Coming down is another story. I recommend walking down the side of Sneaky on skier’s right since the ungroomed...

Upper loop update

Access upper loop via Trickster and then herringbone uphill. Walker’s may punch through in places. Good skate track in meadow and right side of Troy Loop.

Upper and lower loops groomed

Lower loop groomed for skate and classic on hardened trail only. About 4km roundtrip. Conditions are fast. Watch for rocks and wet spots. Upper loop groomed for skate, no classic track.

Lower loop groomed for skate

A 4km loop is groomed for skate skiing. Beautiful corduroy this morning. No classic track but the classic skiing is still good. Watch for rocks! If you see a dark shape on the trail there’s a 98% chance it’s a rock. Santa is going to take a look at the upper loop...

Eaglecrest lower loop hardened and ready for new snow

I had a chance to walk the lower loop today and admired the grooming work from last week on the thin snow cover. The surface is quite hard – my boot prints were barely visible. Some rocks showing on the far end of the meadow. The moment we get a little new snow...

Troy loop not ready for prime time

We went back to the upper loop Monday morning and explored the Troy Loop trail. Another adventure on classic skis. Snow is thin but skiable. One notable creek crossing in order to get to the nice snow on the slopes facing the Hilda drainage. We did not attempt the...

Eaglecrest upper loop has skiable snow

No grooming but the upper loop area has skiable snow. Scott and I skied in a rough classic track in the meadow behind the cabin but did not get back to the Troy Loop. Watch for wet spots beyond the meadow. Easy access on the road although there were so many rocks that...

Rumor has it…

…the lower loop is groomed! Some JNSC volunteers went up to shovel in some low areas Friday and Eaglecrest ran the piston bully to pack the lower loop and lay some corduroy. Upper Loop has even more snow and has been packed out by some intrepid skiers. Early...

GREAT skiing to be had!

There’s plenty of skier-cut track, and even more untracked powder, on the lower and upper loops. Watch out for rocks on the roughly-hardened northeast section of the lower loop meadow. Otherwise it’s smooth gliding all over the mountain!

There is snow at Eaglecrest

The nordic loops at Eaglecrest are well covered in cold, locked-up snow, with very little debris. If they end up being groomed, or if Wednesday or Thursday afternoons end up warm enough to slush up the crust, the loops should ski well later in the day.

Last day of groomed skiing

Morning is the best time for a firm, fast skate track on the lower loop. Upper loop stays in good shape into the afternoon. Party at the base of Ptarmigan starting at 11:30 with live music. Thank you Eaglecrest for a long wonderful season of skiing!

Freezing temps will make for good tracks

We had below freezing temps again last night so expect clean, firm tracks at Eaglecrest today. Upper and lower loop groomed for skate and classic. Skate track should be fun and fast! I will confirm conditions when I get up there this morning. This is the very last...
3-2-1 Get it now!

3-2-1 Get it now!

Upper and lower loops groomed for skate and classic. Tracks are clean and firm thanks to freezing overnight temps. Good crust cruising off groomed. Three days...
