The Mendenhall Lake has not been groomed as it is mostly covered with standing water.
Mendenhall lake snows melted down to ice surface.
Will take cooler weather and more snow before grooming
Lake and Campground were double or tripleteamed in an MMF style attack. Result near perfect conditions as the team beat back the washboard with a long slow groove and added milage with a Visitor Center loop. The VC loop was designed to attract only the best people, so let us know if undesireables are pulling brodies and leaving beer cans and dirty diapers on that side.
Outer loop was finished at noon and inner loop should be done by 1:30. Much of the washboarding was smoothed out by going slow with the groomer, about 10 mph. The downside is that it takes quite a bit longer to groom. Thankfully Doug helped groom the lake. Beautiful conditions. Better get out there while you can.
I’ll start grooming the campground about 8:30. Doug will be helping out with the lake and everything should be groomed by about noon. Hopefully we’ll get another couple of good days skiing before the weather turns sour.
CG and both lake loops groomed. Thanks to new groomers Bekka and Gary.
Thank you, groomers! Mendenhall Lake has been so fun this week! I hope everyone who uses the trails remembers to join the Juneau Nordic Ski Club and also make an extra donation. Grooming takes more than volunteer hours – we also need gas, supplies, and equipment.
