The 8 inches of light snow on the lower loop isn’t deep enough to set a classic track, need another few inches. However, there is good coverage on the gravel trail and probably enough snow for a skier set classic track. There is a thin ice crust on top, but after the first pass that won’t be a problem. The skiing is better on the upper loop, campground and Montana Creek.
Lake was groomed for Skate and Classic this afternoon. Lake has 12 to 15 inches of ice. The Skate lane is not real wide but wide enough. Please try to not skate in classic track. The track is around 12k
Camp Ground was groomed for Skate and Classic this morning
Upper Loop groomed for 2 km of skate skiing, daily Friday-Sunday,
2 km. Uphill access is to walk up Sneaky, stay left; also recommend walking down same way. Trail passes required starting Saturday,
Eagle Beach campground is in good shape for both classic and skate. Classic is excellent, the track is also set on other side of highway behind Methodist Camp, very nice, but be aware it is “gritty” under the highway bridge. Skating is pretty darn good too, a little soft in spots.
Montana Creek is groomed for both skate and classic. I widened the skate part out after the nice snow we got a few days ago. Conditions looked good. Beautiful along the creek.
Plans are underway to groom 2-3 km of the Upper Loop for Saturday.
Stay tuned for more details.
