Heading up to reset the lower loop classic track, should be done by 10:30. No skate grooming, not enough snow.
Word is the lake has decent skiing for skate on the perimeter due to refreezing, and classic skiing. The lake can change daily so make sure to consider the conditions.
FYI – the Juneau Nordic Ski Team will be training on skis at the Mendenhall Campground Saturday morning from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Machine and Ginzu will be moved to Montana Creek on Saturday. Not enough snow for Ginzu to groom yet.
Camp ground was Ginzu groomed several times today. Report that skate skiing was outstanding. It will be groomed Saturday morning. The racing kids well be there at 10 am.
I skied it Th. afternoon and it was skiable with scales but a little slick. Blue Klister probably would be better. It’s a bit bumpy out of the track so not good for skating although I saw a guy do it.
Lower Loop at 3:00 thursday has narrow classic track. Very hard and fast but totally skiable for intermediate/advanced. Downhills are scary. Meadow is fun. No wax touring skis better than race skis. Muscular thighs and precision balance, like mine, highly recommended.
Note trail is officially closed.
