Message from Eaglecrest General Manager, Dave Scanlan: We will begin charging Nordic Fees starting this Thursday as we will be making daily efforts to compact or groom and set classic track during our operating week. This week’s forecasted storms will hopefully add to our base depth. The Lower Loop is scheduled for Thursday Morning. The groomers did another round of compaction on the Upper Loop on Monday Morning and are making progress on getting the trails put in.
Campground grooming finished at 11:30. Used roller to lay down a courderoy carpet for skating and used the “manual” track setter to set a classic track. Snow is a little warm and soft but conditions are good. Too warm for grooming the lake but the forecast of colder weather should allow lake grooming Wed. or Thurs.
Montana Creek is groomed for
skate and classic skiing.
Conditions are good.
I’ll start grooming the campground about 8:30 this morning and then the lake if there’s not too much overflow.
I plan to groom today around noon when the snow is supposed to let up
Yes, the lower loop is a bit soft and has not been perfectly compacted yet, especially when compared with the other tracks around town that have a hard base (campground-pavement, lake-hard ice, Montana Creek-hard dirt road). But it is beautiful on the lower loop with great hills and a gorgeous meadow loop. It is absolutely perfect for a classic ski. Keep your pole plant close to your foot and you won’t break through. Good skiers will appreciate the challenge of being able to ski well in all conditions! Think positive and THANK EAGLECREST for grooming!!!
We just returned from the Lower Loop. It is still too soft for decent skating. The track is torn up in many places as it always is before compacting is complete. The classic track is nice, though the track is too soft for good poling. The loop needs to be further compacted before we can get our season underway.
